the girl with the stinky feet

Photobucket

I never really considered myself a shoe person. I remember my mom taking me shopping for new shoes as a kid and having the cute & very cool sales boy help me fit into my soon to be new pair of Vans. The cute boy kneeling at my feet, (just like Cinderella) sweetly takes off my shoe...only to reveal a sweaty, stinky, dirt ridden, crusty foot...pan camera to my pink, horrified face. There was obvious discomfort to both parties...thus began my nightly, rigorous feet washing regimen.

Anyway, time passed, I have clean feet now. And somewhere in between my Vans shoe experience and now, I grew an affinity and great appreciation for shoes. Shoes protect my feet and my feet take me places. I've also become a believer that the right shoe can change the look and feel of a whole outfit...and at 5'3, I'm not opposed to the extra boost in height and confidence a nice heel gives sometimes.

Annnnyways, I stumbled across these vintage Bally pumps while killing some time at a thrift store in Fullerton. They're not quite my size but they were in such great condition, I couldn't pass them up. And till I can figure out what to do with them, I decided to take them out of my trunk and post them up here for all to enjoy.

balsamic onion dip

For some reason, I had it in my mind that I wanted to make an onion dip for my dad's birthday last week. I searched for recipes and came across this one. It caught my eye because it contained balsamic vinegar and no mayo. The outcome was flavorful, healthy (onions and low fat sour cream can't be that bad, right?) and not to mention incredibly easy. The bowl was gone by the end of the night (that's always a good sign)...albeit I made a small bowl, I'm going to assume the guests liked it. :)

1. If you don't like the look of the long onions, you can dice your onion into small pieces. (The recipe says that you can also pulse it in a food processor).
I also made half the portion of the recipe but used 3 cloves of garlic...I like garlic.

2. Saute onions in oil over medium-high heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently. Add s+p, garlic, and balsamic vinegar and saute for 1-2 minutes longer. (I don't know if it was my pan but I had to add a few extra tbsp of oil to keep from burning my onions).

3. That giant onion turned into about 3/4 cup once it was out of the pan! Remove onions from heat and chill in refrigerator.

4. I only used about 4-5 tbsp of sour cream. You can vary the amount depending on the consistency you like.

5. enjoy!

petit plume photoshoot: the location

While looking for a place to do hair and makeup, Genie found Atilano, an art gallery and hair salon located in Santa Ana's Artist's Village. The bright colors and busy walls had my eyes darting back and forth from the countless paintings hanging from the walls (and ceilings), the glizty cabinets, mismatchy furniture, and artfully placed jewelry.

I was able to chat with the man, Atilano, himself (after he returned from buying cheese and crackers for the girls and I to munch on as we worked...wow.) and soon discovered that everything in his gallery was either inherited or treasures he's found in random antique stores... and that all the paintings and art pieces in his salon were his creations (wow again).

Atilano does a 9/11 painting every year. This one's been in the works for 3 months (4 more months of work to go says Atilano)

Most of the items in here are for sale. They've got an array of jewelry, hats, accessories, and a small rack of hand picked vintage finds. The gallery is beautiful and the alley way behind it turned out to be a great photo spot. I'll be making the occasional pit stop here to see what new paintings the down to earth artist has whipped up.

petit plume pt. 1

I was thrilled when my friend, Genie from Petit Plume, asked me to help style her Spring photo shoot. (Really?! Cool!) She continued to knock my socks off when she told me that the wonderful folks at threadsence.com would let us pick pieces from their website and borrow them for the shoot. (!!!) I've been a fan of threadsence (their stuff is so versatile) for quite some time; I was excited to say the least. I quickly got to 'work' and picked some fun things from their websites. Here are some of my faves...stay tuned to see how they were styled.

This picture represents movement in my workplace and the communities around us. The picture shows two villagers practicing using a new water filter right after 'water filter training.' This is a clean water movement. :)
